Philosophyis the field that deals with the major fundamental questions of life, and witha certain methodology. By questioning, constructing, and evaluating arguments,philosophy aims to gain a deeper understanding of ourselves, the world in whichwe live, and our relationship to the world and to each other. Because of theimportance of philosophy as an authentic field of knowledge, some initiativesof the Kingdom's Vision 2030 came to change the status quo. The Literature,Publishing and Translation Commission has established some programs to supportphilosophy and criticism and contribute to promoting philosophical activities.The Ministry of Education also approved the teaching of the philosophy andcritical thinking course for some public education levels. As a result of thegrowing interest in philosophy on the part of the government of the Kingdom ofSaudi Arabia and based on our belief in the importance of philosophy to deepenour understanding of the world, we thought it is important to establish a researchand educational center of philosophy. Such a center should aim to conduct moreresearch, studies, meetings, and conferences that would enrich philosophycontent and harmonize it with our society through community partnership andcooperation with relevant national, regional and global entities. Hence, theSaudi Center of Philosophy and Ethics (SCOPE) was established to be the firstresearch center specialized in philosophy and ethics in Saudi Arabia with thehope of making an outstanding leap in the philosophical movement locally andregionally.
